Have you heard of Clubhouse? Ask around for invites!
With the heat of Clubhouse, there are several topics around this app such as potential business, marketing strategy, the AI they use. I believe if you enter, there will be many rooms still talking about those.
Here I am going to share some observations about the effects of its interface and the flow. Because I am pretty amazed!🤩
Clubhouse Onboarding: Self-Onboard
The invites make the Clubhouse exclusive, same time create a stronger self-onboard community. Thanks to the voices from other users as well.
There is debate about this strategy, although the creators have announced that their 2021 goal is to complete the app’s beta stage, so I would think this is more of a limitation from their server. The changing of access could cost a lot, if it will be in scope within every stage.
But this exclusiveness has created a strong self-onboarding user community. People introduce each other by stating the date they start onboard. And they share the same interface which makes other users easy to guide through the “newcomers”.
Intuitive Design
Design assets in Clubhouse app show playfulness, the style it presents implying playing around. At the same time this requires users to be quite used to digital interface.
- Cartoon-like icons
- Communicative writing
- Intuitive flow
Clubhouse’s simple UI makes it easy to understand. (Fun story about sign language, there is a group of users from Japan thinking the sign“Peace Out” meaning “Yeah” so left the room multiple times not knowing why.)
Its simple user flow allows the users to play around at the same time providing safe sense by showing friendly writing. It also takes a much bolder step of taking away the editing icon on the profile page. You can simply click on the profile text to start edit, but this needs the users to have a certain mindset to explore because of its lacking of feedbacks to the users.
Social Bar
User can only hear voices and knowing that they can actually reply, this right to talk creates intimacy. Clubhouse has lower the social bar for people.
Let’s put it like this: You walk into a Club and there are several group chatting, you can stand beside them to listen and peace out if you like, you can also join their topics without people thinking you are a strange person.
Clubhouse’s “Rooms” are based on different topics. On live without recording history have initiated different sensitive topics in politics. Clubhouse has offered a digital gathering space (5000 people, not enough) in the time of COVID-19 which is impossible for people to gather physically. The schedule function also emphasizes spontaneity from the participants.
Would be nice to have —
Party toolset: There should be a toolbox for different forms of gathering. For example:
Clubhouse has a moderator role but the person who plays this role doesn’t have a friendly way of reminding people when they should respect other’s time of speaking.
- Timer: there has been debate all the time. It would be nice to have a timer for people to click based on the form of its gathering.
- Speaking sticks (Yes I know, we are not kids. But it is fun to be like one.)
- Room rules functions.
Linking functions: The professional being able to connect more easily
- Link section in profile
Search bar for live rooms: Club function not working well
The connection from Clubhouse is highly based on the person you follow, currently the official accounts and individual accounts don’t seemed to be relevant. It makes the room hard to find and harder to spread because clubs categories don’t applied to the rooms opened at the moment.
- Search function based on room title
- Choosing tags for room.
Improve visibility on who is speaking and raising hands
When speaking in a room, the speaker’s photo will be surrounded by ring which currently is not visible enough. And raising hands also hard for the moderator to see.
For the moment now, I am still enjoying Clubhouse! If you are also the type of person who concentrates better in a café due to the reason of right level of ambient noise triggers our minds to think more creatively(Harvard business review),
Try Clubhouse!
